Granite items can be laser engraved on tiles up to eighteen by twenty four inches. They can also be sandblasted or etched by hand. Granite tiles can be used as an inlay to be placed into monuments and memorials. They can be made into a larger "tiled" mural design as an inlay into a floor, wall, furniture, or even be framed to hang on display. They can look beautiful placed in a special place in your memorial garden, or used as a decorative address block. Too many ideas to write them all down here.
I started granite etching by hand for the best little monument company in Southeast Michigan, LeClair Monuments, about fifteen years ago. The owner Leo LeClair, is a fifth generation monument and memorial craftsman. I met Leo after his sister hired me to draw a portrait of their father. Once he saw the drawing he asked me to try etching portraits on granite for his monument and memorial company. After apprenticing with him in his shop, and learning the old school tried and true ways of creating such works of art, a few practice runs, He let me etch for real! I eventually branched out to some larger monument companies in the Northwest Ohio area. I am sure I have etched hundreds and hundreds of monuments. I specialize in portraits, but I have etched everything from llamas to dump trucks and everything else in between. I can work from a single photo or a number of them to create a collage. Etchings done by hand or the more economical laser can be put on a variety of shapes and sizes of granite tiles. The tiles can be used as an inlay in all colors and sizes of memorials. The tiles are small enough to be shipped anyplace and installed by a local monument company. I am still happily working with Leo and other local granite monument and memorial companies and granite dealers that would be more than happy to assist in completing a fantastic monument or memorial, or even a specialty piece. I hand etched the portraits on The Toledo Children's Memorial, and an etching was included in last years Stone in America Magazines showcase issue. pg.36. I have worked with many great families, and feel that I have helped them through a very difficult time in their lives.
Etched granite tiles can be grouped together to create a mural by enlarging a photo or artwork. The mural can be placed as an inlay into a wall, fireplace, back splash, or even an exterior wall. Custom address stones can be designed too.Tiles can be designed as award plaques, dedication plaques, and be framed to be hung on a wall.
Granite pet memorial stones can be well designed and used in a memory garden, and they can be sandblasted for an extra design element. The tiles can be a mix of hand etching and laser. You may have a bad photo that only a hand etching can work, but the lettering may be completed with the laser.
